It depends on what kind of social work degree you have. A BSW (someone with a Bachelors in Social Work) tends to do things with clients like write goals and make referrals to community resources that would be helpful to the client, and often sees clients in their homes. Then there is an MSW, who often teaches or supervises BSWs. An LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) sees clients in an office setting and is more like a psychologist. Although, social workers differ from psychologists in that they tend to deal more with how do we get things on the right track from here on. They don't usually do a lot with things like exploring your childhood. I hope this helps.
