Wrestling as in Pro Wrestling is entertainment not sport. Has been for years I can remember my Grandmother watching it on Saturdays in the early 60's, it was fake then.
But now it is BIG $$$ entertainment and show for the wrestling masses. I see no draw in it but then pet rocks were a hit too. The RAW or what ever it is called is just a heavy metal verison of fake wrestling mixed with sex.
I do enjoy watching real wrestling, I went to college at OSU and they were a NCAA Champions many years. I still watch the NCAA's on TV.

Back in the 19th century, wrestling as we know it today was not scripted. The wrestling I refer to is scripted professional "Sports Entertainment" wrestling such as WWE, NWA: TNA, OBW, etc.
I have attended wrestling shows and I know many wrestlers in the indy scene. The term "indy" refers to wrestlers who travel across their region or internationally, to fight for money and make a name for themselves. Also, my brother is "Unbreakable" Danny Magnum, a wrestler of LLW fame. This is a small, but growing fed in Southern Ontario.
The reason why wrestling is (not fake, the correct term is scripted) "scripted" lies back in the 1800's when it wasn't scripted. It is fairly simple actually. Wrestling for sport and for money in the sense that it was to put on a show was growing increasingly popular. The problem is that wrestlers had to be evenly matched to make more money, or the match winners would be obvious and no-one would come to the shows; because of the evenness of the wrestlers' talents, matches would be long, sometimes lasting from early in the morning to late at night. Naturally, people grew tired of these long bouts and in order to shorten matches and make the shows more thrilling and entertaining, the match details were determined beforehand and the moves were altered so that they did not injure the wrestlers.
Keep in mind that, though wrestling is predetermined, it is still a work of art. Moves are done over and over to perfect them and they spend hours practicing matches and moves. Remember, you can think of the matches as "fake", but the people in them after all, just want you to enjoy the show, so enjoy it.
Also, my brother has wrestled in matches without predetermined endings that are simply to entertain the crowd, usually while they tend to an injured wrestler, or prepare for a "spot" (a high, exciting climactic point in the show).
In conclusion, I ask you to remember that wrestling isn't "fake" as people may think, but merely "scripted". It is refered to by "smart -marks" (yet another wrestling term, meaning people who know the other side of the business and who usually are wrestlers or internet fans) as "choreographed wrestling". I hope this has solved your question.

wrestling is catered to entertain the masses. They use high flying moves, loud crashes and weapons to give more excitement! If the average wwe fan watched Olympic style wrestling they would be very bored or wonder why two guys are rolling around on the floor like that. Take the wwe for what it is worth pure entertainment with all the fireworks and pretty ladies to go with it!

simple! if you want real wrestling, then go to the gyms in america which have college or high school wrestling teams, like iowa or oklahoma! wrestling on pro level is ORCHESTRATED! NOT TOTALLY FAKE, SINCE THEIR HAVE BEEN SERIOUS INJURIES OVER YEARS in high risk manuvers that the men like curt engle and shawn michaels make. if you want athleticism, then watching pro wrestlers is an amazing experience, even though the shows like raw do something stupid stuff for entertainment! that is what is, and meant to be: ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE FANS! thatis why it is called WWE, WHICH STANDS FOR WORLD WIDE ENTERTAINMENT! that is answer to your question, and even though many people say it is fake, i say to them: WHY DON'T YOU TRY TO BODYSLAM A 325 POUND MAN, OR JUMP FROM THE ROPES ABOPUT 15 FEET IN AIR OR DO REVERSE SNAP KICK LIKE SHAWN MICHAELS CAN DO. LET IS SEE HOW TOUGH YOU ARE THEN. you cannot ake it too seriously because these gus are having a lot of fun, and will be the first to tell you so, like hilk hogan! human beings seem to have a bloodthirsty desire for violence, and the wwe seems to fit the biil for people who can only fantasize about being in that great of physical shape.

Ric flair incredibly reached 20+ international call reigns yet some at the instant are not counted by maximum wrestling circles for varied motives. Pat Patterson substitute into the 1st Intercontinal champion in basic terms 2 Europeans held the ecu call in the time of its time as an energetic call, The British Bulldog and William Regal.

The reason wrestling is "Fake" is that with the strength and athleticism of the wrestlers they would seriously injure or possibly kill themselves. Imagine the Tombstone Piledriver, if your head really hits the mat you are in serious risk of paralyzing the opponent. Hope this helps....

Wrestling is fake so the guys do not get hurt. Believe me, my brother and I would do those moves to each other and we almost always got hurt.

TNA wrestling is planning on taking the X-division 100% shoot, which means real. This will take effect when they have their Monday Night Special when WWE raw is pre-empted for the dog show.

It's fake so people won't die! It is true that they get hurt and bleed real blood and have several problems on the shoulder, knee, back, etc. But it isn't real that people really hate each other or that they get hit with championship belts or nothing!
