first quarter report cards that count for nothing (im 15) came in december and at that time, i had 3 B's- honors science, math, and world geo.
my parents told me that if i didnt try to rise them i might not be able to be in our school musical (im a theatre kid)
well, my math grade a B- i raised last week 3 percentages! I scored a 95.4 on my final! it didnt go to an A, just a solid B, but I was still estatic.
my wolrd geography grade no matter what stayed the same! I studied sooo hard, but at least it didnt decrease. I scored a B+ on the final and it stayed a B.
my science went downhill. I got a C on my final and now have a C in the class.
that is terrible. never gotten a C before and my parents are sooo uptight about grades!
now i cant be in the musical and im freaking out. theatre is the only thing that gets me through the day.
i dunno what to do now. no theatre= no happiness.
what should i tell my parents?? I TRIED SO HARD!
i have only 3 A's, 3 B's and a C

Your parents are figuring, if you can't make the grades to get you into the college you need, how will you be able to do it when the time you need for homework and studying is spent in the drama club?
I understand how you feel. You do have a couple more years though to do better. I'm not telling you to write this spring play off, but my sister was in a community drama club which met in the summer, and lasted a few years past high school. Is that a possibility for you? It is so tough when you can't be a part of what your friends are doing. to feel a bit on the outside. but perhaps you can still hang with them and unofficially be part of it without the pressure? Try to talk with your parents without being emotional or upset. I know it hurts, they know it hurts. It hurts them to have to be the bad guy. They truly are trying to have you do what's best for you in the long run. Look for some middle ground. Will they help with a tutor to bring the grades up? do you have a friend in the Drama club that could be part of a study group with you? is there a brainiac you like, who can help you study to bring the grades up? once you are a little behind, it does take two times the effort to climb back out of the hole. Try to understand your parents and work with them. Don't make it confrontational and a win or lose battle. See if you can get them to work with you on a way to satisfy both your need for good grades, and your need to be creative.
Think alot about sitting this spring out and hanging out at rehersal WHILE you study quietly. See if you can maintain being social AND get better grades.
Good luck.

Tell them you tried if that is what you did.... but you need to figure out why you were unable to bring your grade up in that subject.... maybe your studying habbits for that class are all wrong.... either way own your grade and figure out a way to improve upon it next time... that is what a winner does.... losers worry about how to explain their lose while winners work on how to improve no matter what the score was....
* The girl above me said a C is averae and an acceptable grade.... not true.
Your parents know you are better than average and they expect that from you... you should expect that from yourself. Never strive to be only average...... that is not a good place to be.... stand out and be aove average.....
But be proud of yourself for trying but dont let that be the end..... keep trying... you can master anything you put your mind to.
Go into class everyday KNOWING you will pass and excel and you will...because you wont leave anyother option for yourself.

I'm a social worker and deal with these kinds of questions all the time. I'm also a parent. Remind your parents how important the theater production is to you. Then (and I know how time consuming rehearsals are, especially as you get closer to opening night), give them a study schedule that you plan to follow (and that is realistic) for the next semester. You may have to give up some Friday and Saturday nights in order to accomodate this and also to show them that you are serious in your intentions. Finally, remind your parents that it's not just grades that will get you into college. In today's competitive market, a student has to have lots of extra-curricular activities (like theater) to show that she's a well-rounded applicant. Good Luck.

Just tell your parents you really tried your hardest, cause you obviously did!! Tell them you studied really hard and you still got a C. The play is really important to you so offer to do some work around the house or something to make up for the bad grade. Tell them you're sorry and you'll try even harder next grading period. Just show that you tried and you're sorry. Believe me, I know how paranoid parents can be about grades. Don't argue with them that the grading period grades don't count, I tried that once....it didn't work. They don't understand the whole semester deal I guess. Just be very open and mature about it.

You'll excuse me I hope.. but i would tell your parents that they should be thankful that you are doing so well in school, and have an interest in being a good student. It's great that you dig theatre, what a positive outlet.
So many parents would kill to have a kid like you..
You are in school, you are not out on the streets reaking havoc, you are not on drugs, and you are not pregnant.
It amazes me that parents who are lucky enough to have a good kid, just keep expecting so much of them, when they are already doing a good job.
Sit them down and tell them that you will do your level best to bring up that C, but emotionally you need to continue with your theatre class.
Good Luck

I would be really sincere to your parents and let them know that a good student does not get into colleges with grades alone. Involvement in acting and all theatre things shows up as a "go getter". You have to have diversity.
Print this article up and show your parents you are serious about going to college, but you need to have a well rounded stigma behind you.

**Read it first so you know what you are up against.
Write this into a short skit, maybe they will see it better?
Good Luck!

those grades aren't so bad...and it doesn't make sense for your parents to make you not attend the musical. It's like a parent not letting their child go to SAT classes. Musicals help build children into better citizens. A real punishment is to take away TV for a month.

That's a tough one. Print out all of the answers from this poll.
I think that your grades show that you DO put quite a bit of effort into your studies and this posting shows that you are CREATIVE. Add that all to the theatre stuff and it sounds like you're a pretty well rounded kid.
Keep up the good work!
