Miminum wage is huge topic of debate these days. Instead of raising minimum wage with the theoretic possiblity of hurting small business, instate a welfare program/job placement program that guarentees if you work a forty hour week and are constantly employed you recieve a much larger welfare. All this of course without rasiing taxes or government spending (maybe with funds that are currently being used to fight a war after its done.)

So does that mean you agree that $5.75 an hour isn't adequate to support a family on?
Raising minimum wage isn't going to hurt small business!
The only thing that will happen is goods and services will go up!
Why people are complaining about that I don't understand!
I am willing to pay more to have my fellow citizen be able to feed his family!

We need to bring manufacturing companies back to our country so children and adults in countries like Tiawan aren't forced to work for pittance!

What you are saying has been in effect for decades already. If you keep the minimum wage the way it is, if will affect unemployement because of the low wages. Their are too many prideful people that do not want to go on welfare to support themselves. One thing i have learned is that no matter what, in war time they will ALWAYS raise taxes to support government spending on the war. There is no way to get around that. The minimum wage has to be increased. Government spending is actually good for the economy because it promotes growth in the long run when the economy can regain equilibrium. The minimum wage is just one little part of the equation that has to be changed. In my own personal opinion, welfare shouldnt even exist because it drills a false sense of security that the government will always support you. Welfare is actually the biggest reason why taxes can become so high. Increased unemployent = Increased government spending towards welfare and other public services to keep its people afloat. Welfare should be abolished and replaced with job placement and learning job skills. Teach a man how to fish, and you wont become the source anymore.

It's an interesting thought, but I think your thinking may encourage abuse of the welfare system.

People who really have no ambition to get off of welfare will put in a few more hours of work, only to try to get fired so they can get a cushy welfare check.

You know what I mean - there's one in every workplace. The guy that always calls in sick, sleeps on the job, and just generally screws off.
Should he enjoy a bigger check for not working?

well they just raised minimum wage here in California to 7.50 and in 2008 it will go up to 8.50 so i don;t know why its such a problem. Taxes is what makes the world go round. So I highly doubt they'll stop taxes any time soon.
