History is in the eye of the beholder. Like many other things facts are open to interpretation and the experiences and opinions of the individual will factor into the patterns found.

For example, European history books have a very different view of the revolutionary war than American history books.

Historians find or make patterns in history, that may or may not be there. These patterns are not governed by facts, but by the historian's own interpretations. The historian essentially makes history by selectively presenting it.

It means that there is no way to prove the ideas of a historian, wear as a scientist can. For example if a scientist says ' i believe that if i combine water and salt and heat it, it will create gold'. Well then he can go to the stove and try it and it won't work and he will be proved wrong. But if a historian says ' I believe that periods of war are followed by periods of economic prosperity' there is no real way to prove that. He can't just go and heat up the stove and try it. He's just trying to interpret data and come up with a pattern.

well the past is just that the past. and no one can be positive, just as a hypothesis made by a scientist isnt perfected, its just an idea that must be tested/ neither can be scrutinized or turned down.. but they cant be proved without further research
