My school is putting on their first play and have a modest budget. Where is there a good supplier of materials? We need colored smoke, strobes, costume and makeup supplies, lighting, and... a stage curtain.
The curtain is the most important part, so any info on suppliers would be appreciated.

If your budget is modest, I would suggest finding a way around using a curtain. Curtains are quite expensize, as is the hardware to operate them. I've seen theatrical curtains on Ebay in excess of $3000, and that's for a small 10' high x 16' wide curtain!

Actually, if you've got time, Ebay is a good source for theatrical supplies. Otherwise you'll need to contact some sources, look up theater supply for some firms. I've listed some that are relatively inexpensive and reliable.

In my experience I've found Lancelyn to be far and away the best theatre retailer. They have a large range of products ranging from dirt cheap to professional quality, and also do rentals and installations as well. Pretty comprehensive if you ask me.here's the link

Much like the previous person said, theatrical curtains are very expensive. I have had good luck with Rose Brand (for curtains) and Norcostco (for lighting needs). Neither are particularly inexpensive, but both are reputable.

Rosebrand is a great supply house. Yet, things are not cheap. You might consider a rental house instead.
Where are you?
If you are near any large city, there is sure to be a rental house for most everything you need.

Have fun!
