I'm 37 weeks along, and this morning i'm pretty sure my water broke -- clear, odorless fluid leaking soaking thru 3 pads in a few hours, accompanied by severe, menstual like cramps and some light spotting.

I went to the doctor and he did NOT EVEN EXAMINE ME!!!
just asked my symptoms and said it could not be my water breaking, because it would have been a gush of fluid, not a trickle.

He is usually such a good doctor, but he seemed really distracted and irritated-- he was upset that I'd lost 3 lbs, as if I'd done it on purpose.

Am I just paranoid, or could i really be close to labor and he did not catch it for whatever reason? I'm very nervous, and I'm sure this is not helping matters.

The leaking is continuous, but not gushing. I just feel in my gut that it's more than he made it out to be. I am scheduled to see him again on Wednesday morning. Do I need to worry about it before then, or will my baby be alright untill then?

pleeease help me maintain my sanity!!

The water can leak without being the sudden gush that is associated with the "water breaking". If the water is leaking, though, you are at a risk of infection. Normally (and to the best of my knowledge), doctors won't give the woman to long after leaking occurs without telling her to go to the hospital. It surprises me that the doctor didn't tell you to see if you go into labor between today and tomorrow, and if you don't then to go to the hospital anyway.

Prior to labor the water can come in mini-gushes at seemingly regular intervals. I would think, though, that some leaks in the sac may result in what you describe.

I think you should call the doctor, make it clear exactly what you are experiencing, and ask if you are at risk of infection. Ask if its ok for you to go until Wednesday. Make it clear that you are asking if you have a leak in the sac and not asking if this is the water has broken.

At 37 weeks there's a good chance you're close to labor, but the question you need to ask that doctor is how long it is safe for you to go with water leaking constantly. If he doesn't explain everything to your satisfaction go to an emergency room and tell them the situation.

Go with your gut instinct. Get a second opinion. There is an easy test a doctor can do to tell you if it is your amniotic fluid or not. It is a simple cotton bud (im not sure what you call them in the US a cue-tip i think?) which is chemically treated. If it is amniotic fluid this turns purple if not it says white. It can even be rubbed on the sanitary towel it does not have to be swabbed inside you even. I think it is pretty irresponsible of your doctor not to put your feelings to rest with such a simple test. Don't wait till Wednesday once your waters have broken you have a limited amount of time before the baby is susceptible to infection. See a different doctor if you are not satisfied this is you and your babies health we are talking about after all. Don't take no for an answer. I say trust your gut instinct that is what its for.

You need to deliver within 48 hours of your water breaking so waiting till Wednesday won't be good if your water did break. I would call the hospital and ask them. Your water breaking doesn't have to be a gush. It depends on where the water breaks. A trickly of fluid can also be your water. If you don't start contractions soon then I would call the hospital and ask them if that could be it. If contractions start then you'll know for sure you're in labor and even if for some reason it isn't your water then well, you can find out when you do get to the hospital. Sounds to me like it's your water though. Call the hospital and see what they would advise. Best of luck!

They can test the fluid you're leaking to see if it's amniotic fluid or urine. It's a simple swab test. Once your water breaks, you need to have your baby within 24 hours or there's a risk of infection.

I think you should probably go to the hospital and have them check to see if you're leaking amniotic fluid, and not wait until Wednesday. You know your body better than the doctor does. The fluid could be coming in a trickle because the baby's head acts like a cork, blocking most of the cervix.

go to the hospital... they have a test to do. They use a ph paper thingy sort of like a swab that tests the liquid in your vagina to see if there is any amniotic fluid there. You can DEFINITLY trickle... and not just GUSH. Has your doctor lost his mind? Go over his head and go to the maternity ward if your contractions do not start within 24 hours to save off infection. Today is monday, I woudln't wait till wednesday :( :( I'm pregnant with my second baby too so trust me, if your body is telling you something is up, then something is up!

My friend had the same thing happen to her. She went to the emergency room and said she thought her water broke. She had fluid slowly leaking out. They told her to go home and rest and wait for the next App. Needless to say she went back to the hospital and they finally took her seriously and let her be admitted. She delivered her baby girl that night! So go to the emergency room. Your doctor is crazy, but be persistant. Good Luck!

Your Dr. was uncaring and unprofessional. It really sounds as if your water broke, and he's wrong, it's not always a gush. I agree with the first answer, go to the ER. Once your water breaks your baby can be subject to bacteria and it can affect him/her. Call a back-up Dr. or go to the ER or even the maternity ward of your hospital Good Luck.

Here's an article I found, scroll down to where it says "rupture of membranes."

If I were you I would go to the ER!! You're water probably did break there is no way that he can tell if it broke without an examinaton. When my water broke a tthe clinic at 39 weeks the doctor put some kind of tape thing to check and sure enough it did break!

You might be just leaking. Do you fell any discomfort or pressure down there? You can also call the advice nurse at the hospital you are planning on delivering at and get a second opinion. I think your baby is coming soon. Congrats!
