Take a look at Israel's mandatory service...
One of the negative effects is that since service is required, they don't have to offer ANY benefits as incentive to get people to join....
I sure wouldn't trust you to have my back if you didn't want to be there....Bad bad idea!

nicely, in line with threat i will help with this. I served in the army two times, alongside with a bear in mind for Operation desolate tract typhoon and served additionally in Europe, the place lots of the countries have mandatory provider in the militia. What outcomes from mandatory provider is that the standard of the warriors which you have on the battlefield is quite low. the warriors that I knew in the Dutch and German armies have been finished jokes. superb adult men, and that i enjoyed putting out with them, however the Armies of those countries could no longer count number directly to guard a candy shop. word the end results of any UN militia operations, they're all finished failures, many times ensuing in great deaths in the populations they have been deployed to guard. on the different hand, seem at present batch of infantrymen in the united states of a. they're hard, disciplined and stimulated. they have chosen to enlist, no longer been forced. evaluate the extremely low physique count selection in the Iraq conflict (besides the reality that each and every existence lost is a real tragedy,) I guess if we had a drafted militia as we had in the Vietnam era, the physique count selection could be a lot bigger (no disrespect to the Vietnam Vets.)

I met an Israeli woman during a trip to NZ in 2004. Israel required a year or two of mandatory military service after high school. I don't know the details...but it could be a start for your English class (paper? debate?)

It may stifle independent thought to condition every american at age 18 to take orders from authority without questioning. Notice how soldiers and vets sometimes call people "sir" who have done nothing to deserve it? It could be argued that we want our citizens to be more suspect of authority in order to preserve our freedom.
However, it would have a positive effect of making americans battle-ready so that if a real threat came, we would be able to raise a massive army.

Well first off it could cause a revolution against the US Govt. (which almost happened in the late 1960s over the Vietnam war draft) and that would be very, very bad for the country.
