my notebook doesnt show up on my routers DHCP list, can't be pinged from any of my other computers and can't be pinged using the routers ping feature. (i know im using the right IP). But, my notebook can ping the router and all of my other computers.
What's up??

i can connect to the internet and create a vpn to my desktop (although my workgroup doesnt work so i cant do anything with it)

Could be several things. Open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all". That will give you the IP address of your laptop. (I know you said you're sure you're using the right IP. Check anyway.) Try pinging the laptop again, using the IP address the command brought up.

If the IP's correct, on the right subnet, and you can ping "out", but can't ping "in" to the laptop, it's almost certainly a firewall issue. You can firewall the network card to not respond to a ping. That way it appears "invisible". Check your network/firewall settings on the laptop to see if it's been configured to not respond to a ping.

Failing that, you've got a failing NIC card. It's only partially functional.

goto control panel / administrative tools / services and start all the services concerning network this should work if ur sure ur ip's are correct it happened to me before

If it's a WiFi network, I'd blame WiFi nuances.
