It depends how you're using it. Most spray chemicals will be dangerous, and so will any chemicals with strong fumes. Anything that you can smell for more than a minute or that hurts your nose or makes you dizzy is not safe.
They have natural, safe cleaning products and you should invest in some of those to be safe, and make sure he has a good lid on his tank.

Anything should be fine just dont spray around the tank, spray cleaner on a rag or something as far away from the tank as possible.
