Okay so I have a hamster and I found her yesterday in her cage lieing on the ground! and I taped on the cage like 5 times and she did nothing, Her two babies live with her and she didn't have anything like physically wrong with her so I don't think they got in to a fight. We picked her up witha paper plate and put her gentley in a new cage by her self. She will not move at all but she is still breathing, could she be hibernating? I don't know but I am really scared cause I love her alot, we found her last night at this time and she is still breathing. PLease can some one tell me what is wrong and if there is anything I can do for her. =[

Thank you so much and also, please don't make any rude remarks because I love her soo much.

Syrians are the only hamsters known to hibernate.

It sounds like her babies are adults now and if you don't see the signs of a fight then it sounds like there are two things that could have caused this. First would be a stroke the other would be paralysis. Paralysis would have been caused by an injury to the spine or neck. This could have happened when a few of them were running in the wheel together. Paralysis may only be temporary and may be treatable with steroids. If it's a stroke then the most humane thing to do would be euthanise her. If you don't, she'll starve to death.

Either way, you'll be visiting a vet.

it's probably Wet Tail. If you noticed any runny poo on her or in the cage or even a strange smell-diffrent from regular hamster cage smell- she has wet tail. go NOW to the petstore, walmart, save on foods, wherever you can find it and get the treatment for wet tail (one brand is called Dry Tail). Get a tiny dropper if it doesnt come with one. Give her as much of the regular dose as you can. You will have to do it a drop at a time so she doesnt drown. DO NOT miss a dose. No fruit or veggies for 2 weeks. Get a small ammount of guinea pig food in a few days if she recovers and feed only that for a week to help solidify her feces. Get her some Pedilite from the baby section of a store. Give her a capfull in her water every day. It helps rehydrate her. It is safe to give every day.

It could also be birth complications if the babies were born recently

I hate to say this but chances are she will probably not make it. I have tried to save many hamsters from wet tail.Your chances will be better if you are persistant with the medication. Make sure you get it today. tomorrow will probably be too late. And keep an eye on the other ones.

Have you phoned the vet? They can usually tell you what is wrong and whether to take them in. If you didn't pet her for a few days before you found her like this and it is cold in your area, then she may well be hibernating. When you found her, was she really cold and limp? Also another sign of hibernating. Definitely call your vet, they are the experts and will do anything they can to help her! Good luck, hope this helps!

I had 14 hamsters , I've never seen any one of them
hibernating !
Especially if kids are around . . .

Anyway , it was a good thing to separate her from the kids !

Just see a vet a soon as possible . . .

I think she's gonna be okay !

Check if she is holding food in her cheeks . . .

Maybe she just choked on some seeds !!!

Hope she'll get better !

The poor thing !

Problem-
The hamster appears dead or comatose and is weak and unresponsive.

Solution-
Take to a cool room, and while holding in hand, set the hamster into cool water. Keep the head above water. Carefully and completely dry the hamster. Make sure you keep them out of drafts! As soon as they are conscious, rehydrate

Something simular happened to my rat. I woke up one morning and she wouldn't move or eat. She kind of pulled herself along the ground or stayed curled up in a ball. It was really sad. I gave her a day or two to see if she would get better, but she didn't, so I took her to the humane society to be put to sleep. They did it for free because I was bawling.
Take your hamster to the vet and get her checked out. I hope she gets better.

could be many things:
1. hibernation, maybe the temp. is right, so try warming it up
2. playing dead- hamsters have been known to do this for some strange reason-mine did!
3. maybe sick, or already dead :(
but before you jump to any conclusions, you should see the vet!!
good luck, though!!
