WEP - or Wired Equivalent Privacy - is a security standard used to encrypt data transferred to and from wireless devices such as laptops and smartphones. Here's a more technical explanation:
"The security aspects of 802.11b, a standard that enables wireless devices such as PDAs and laptop computers to access a network via radio frequencies instead of physical wiring. WEP has three tasks: 1) to authenticate clients to access points; 2) to encrypt the data exchanged between the clients and access points; and 3) to include an integrity check with every packet exchanged. The initial implementation of WEP provides weak security. While it is not completely useless, it is best used as another layer of security in conjunction with stronger measures."

I am not familiar with Palm devices so if a Palm user doesn't provide the answer you're looking for I recommend you try some of the following things to find the solution to your concern:
a) consult the user's manual.
b) if you don't have the user's manual go to Palm's website and see if you can download a copy of the manual.
c) contact Palm's technical help.
d) join a group in Yahoo! Groups where members can ask technical questions (free of charge) related to the specific device you own.
