Just look for a better hotel which is not an all-in. Aside from exploiting the local labor and sending the profits back to Europe or the US, the A.I. hotels will treat you like cattle.

I am going to Punta Cana in April and have found the web site below to be very helpful. Our vacation is already planned for an all inclusive resort, which works great for us. We want everything to be at hand, and not have to travel far. We are not lazy, just live n a city and every time we need something or want to go somewhere we deal with traffic. So a vacation to us is sitting on our butts by the pool, or maybe snorkeling off the beach that the resort is on. To each their own. The resort also offers excusions, and I know I will at least do the shopping one, and my partner has already planned to take in a game of golf. Good luck and enjoy your vacation!

The Secrets Resort in Punta Cana are gorgoues! I tried to stay at one but there wasn't any openings so I stayed at Iberostar, which is not so bad-nothing beats an all-inclusive resort, which Secrets is too. My co-worker said at Secrets, you can get your own private hot tub in your room! What's better than that? Plus, I believe Secrets also gives you a honeymoon package for staying there.

I'm from Dominican Republic and i visited Punta Cana 2 years ago and it was beautiful. I booked it online through www.beachdestinations.com. They are very good. The best thing that you should do is to make sure that the hotel is all inclusive.

Dont know where you are at, but if you get on Thomsons web site (they are based out of the UK) take a look at what they have written about the Hotels. We have been twice and stayed at an All Inclusive and had a great time. We were at a Superclub Breezes resort. I would suggest traveling with an agency and if you are from the UK I would definately advise on Thomson. They really took care of us, made us aware of what was available to do off the property, always had last minute items we made need and many other extras.

Recomendations from dominican travel agent.
For honeymooners some of the best choices are:
Secrets excellence, that is an adult only resort, that has special packages for honeymoons
also you may try Ocean resorts, they also have honeymooners packages and the hotel is nice.
other options are Iberostar Bavaro, Majestic resort (all rooms have jacuzzi in this one)
I Hope you have a wonderfull honeymoon

The opposite: DO NOT GO TO IBEROSTAR! It has great recommendations, even one on your list, but just went in Dec. and the customer service is awful everywhere: restaurants, casino, salon, landscapers...you name it! My cousin got married there and she had problems with her room, wedding arrangements, and even a welcome basket... We stayed at the Bavaro, but I wouldn't recommend any of the three.
