we've been on and off for a year and kept things open but we haven't spoken in a month. When we weren't talking and it was my birthday he sent me an email.Should I acknowledge his and if so how?

yes, why not? I have been divorced for nearly 5 years and i still call my ex husband and wish him happy birthday and merry christmas.....and he does the same. Its just something we do. We have remained friends after the divorce and thats our way of keeping in touch just to say hi. Do it. Dont mean anything more than what it is. Do it right now.

Yes u should, sometimes people 4get and wont say n e thing, but u jus might be da only 1 2 remember dis persons b-day. me and my ex r still cool but we really dont talk unless it is a birthday or holiday. jus email sayin " jus mailin 2 say happy birthday

Yeah, just thank him and if he is a person you want to recoil your friendship with start up a convo. I was in the same dilema with a girl who I dated for four months and she called me and i didn't find anything wrong with that.

yeah i would either send him a card, or an email, or if you want to start talking to him, this would be a perfect excuse to call him.
