Cheerleading is a sport! We work for 5 months for 3 minutes on the floor( that was for our first competition). That doesn't even include the conditioning we do on our own. Go to youtube.com and look up cheer stunts and tell me that cheer is not a sport. Football is easier than cheer. Our cheer team had injuries in the first month of practice. We had more practice and injuries than the footbal team.

It has nothing to do with how much work you do. I could spend hours climbing a tree and It could have been really hard, but I have to come back down some time and I did all that work for nothing. It was pointless. I think competitive cheerleading is a sport because it takes skill, time, effort and competition. But regular cheerleading is just a waste of time. All the cheerleaders do is be loud and annoying. We always wanted the cheerleaders to just leave at our games. But I really do think competitive cheerleading is a sport and I see that it is extremely difficult and takes alot of practice and preparation. I support it.
In response to the girl who said if it makes you sweat its a sport. wtf is that? What if I sweat taking a crap? do you want to see me compete on ESPN?

In the physical sense, yes. Just like gymnastics, or hiking, or hunting (well okay not exactly like them), activities that require some sort of organized physical activity but don't involve scoring points.
It just depends on your definition of "sports". And I agree with the people earlier who said that cheering on the sidelines isn't a sport at all, while doing routines for competition arguably is.

football, basketball, ect. cheerleading is not a sport. you are just doing easy stunts and cheering for the players. But compitition cheerleading is a sport. Poeple lifting and getting lifted in the air, jumps, cheers, dancing, and tumbling for about minutes is hard and most people could not even do 1/2 the stuff comp. cheerleaders do.

well technically cheerleading is not a sport ,it is an activity. the activity of cheerleading is not intended to be competitive and therefore is not a sport. it may confound you but billiards and darts are a sport while cheerleading is not. yes billiards and darts are not very athletic but they fit the definition of "sport" because they are intended for being competitive.
yes i know that cheerleading contests happen all of the time but if you classify cheerleading as a sport then you could classify dancing as a sport also. both activitys are very athletic and require alot of work but neither are intended to be competitive.
sport : an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

Heck Yea it's a sport and a brutal one at that. My daughter came home with a swollen face and I had to go and get her head examined from her getting kicked in the face. She was a spotter. Everone said that if it had been them catching the girl they would have dropped her but not my daughter. She did what she was supposed to do and for the love of doing it. She said it was her responsibility to make sure that flyer didn't fall.

cheer- leaders on the sidelines or on the field would be considered as people doing an activity. To be a part of that activity, you would be considered as in a sport. Probably gymnastics.
