How about BETTER than when you bought it?
2 free programs can really help you. First is winpatrol. It will tell you all the misc programs that are starting everytime you start your computer. You can disable anything that you dont want running in the background...and theres a LOT of programs that do this.
Second is ccleaner (Crap Cleaner). It will go through and clean up a lot of things on your computer that you dont need or use anymore.
If you reload from your recovery disk, you need to backup all your data files first, then do a windows update to get everything up to date since the time you bought the computer.
Try the winpatrol and ccleaner before you do something drastic.

Reinstalling your system is a hassle! I strongly suggest that you get a decent anti-virus (I use AVG), anti-spyware (I recommend Spy Bot Search and Destroy) and a registry cleaner (GET CCleaner! http://www.ccleaner.com).
I must assume that you do regular virus and spyware check on your system, however, those aren't enough. Use a registry cleaner, especially the one I recommended, to remove unnecessary registry entries and temporary files.
Be warned though, I may make my point simple, but Reading The Product Manual helps a lot if you don't want to "accidentally" erase some important files.
If you want your system to run faster after getting new software and updates, i may recommend that you upgrade your RAM, 512 MB is good enough these days, as new software may be memory intensive. You may not want to do that, but that's just me.

You've got to do Disk Cleanup (I do it every night) and also go to Explorer and clear browsing history. Also do Defrag. For Disk Cleanup, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup (mark everything and say yes to everything when it asks you) and then do Defrag (it takes awhile). Also, delete all your old e-mail messages and any other documents, pictures, music, whathaveyou, that you no longer want. You can download music and pics to flash drives. You also need a good spy ware program. Spy ware makes everything slow. Good luck.
