Briar Rose by Jane Yolen is a good one. It's a twist on the Sleepy Beauty fairy tale. Also Sister Light, Sister Dark and White Jenna (book 1 and 2) by Jane Yolen are great! It's about this girl, Jenna, who is orphaned and raised amongst a clan of warrior women. Turns out that she is the child that was prophesized about. She has a very hard time accepting this and keeps telling people that it's not her, that she's only human. But she does all the things that the prophesy said she would do. She becomes a warrior and makes friends and falls in love and it's just a great story! I read the books many times as a teen and then bought then a few years ago to read again.

Bad Kitty by Michele Jaffe
Meet Jasmine forensic supersleuth and unwitting victim of a naughty feline.
All Jasmine really wants is to enjoy her family vacation in Las Vegas. And avoid her evil cousin Alyson and Alyson's best fiend, Veronique. And show her suspicious dad that she can be a Model Daughter. And maybe meet the hot guy she's been eyeing from across the pool. It that too much to ask?
Apparently, yes. One moment she's an innocent bylounger, the next the central figure in a Las Vegas-sized mystery. Fortunately, Jasmine is both a forensics enthusiast and possessed of some very, well, special friends. Polly, Tom, and Roxy crash the vacation, BeDazzle Jasmine's wardrobe, and find themselves key players in the most outrageous adventure in a town known for outrageous adventures.
All because of a very bad kitty.

Girly girl-The princess diaries(or American girl, teen idol, etc. the Meg Cabot books in general are great for teens), sisterhood of the traveling pants, and the Alice series.(some of the Alice books may be less than 200 pages)
Tomboy- Maximum Ride and it's sequel School's out- Forever, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Twilight and it's sequel, and Hatchet ( Hatchet is actually very boyish but it is soooooooo good!)

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Also the other books in the series: A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters. Probably any of her books, although I don't think I've read them all. I've loved L'Engle since I was 11 or 12, and still read them many, many, years later!
There are sooo many more books too!
Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (one of my FAVORITES!)
I could go on and on, but this will get you started!

you could try 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson...it's about a girl who gets this set of envelopes from her dead aunt & she has to do the tasks in the letters in their number order(1-13) & goes all around europe to do the different tasks. she also meets a guy in London & they fall in love. it was a really good book, but it's about 317 pages.
