Ethnically they are a bit different.
The majority of blacks in the US are of West African descent, and have been in the United States for centuries, while the majority of blacks in the UK are of Afro-Carribean descent (black Cuban, Jamaican, Domincan, etc.) or are even from Africa and have not been there so long.
Slavery in the UK wasn't as hardcore as it was in the US, and racism itself did not take such a strong hold in the UK like it did in the US, so life for blacks in the UK was and has been a little less hard.
There are of course different outlooks on life and over all attitudes that differ due to the difference in geography, but over all we are similar but not the same as our brethren in the UK.
