well I am assuming that the reason it would be shut off is because of the lack of a bill being paid so no, if someone had their electricity and gas shut off by means of not paying their bill and their child died, files would probably be charged against the parents for neglegence.

in a case where the gas/electric were shut off without explanation by the provider and due to that a child died, the parents probably could sue unless: A) it was shut off due to an emergency situation or B) there was an outage in the area.

If it weer shut off by a landlord or apartment complex with 24 hour notice they could not sue, or if it were due to an emergency without notice they could not sue either. but, if it were shut off by the landlord/apartment complex without 24 hour notice and for only a reason of repairing someone else's unit in a non emergency situation, then the landlord/apartment complex would be fined and could be subject to a law suit in the case that due to the circumstances a child died..

being that you are asking about a heater being shut off, the child would most likely had to have died of hypothermia, which, if occurred indoors, the parents would likely be found at fault, many things can be done to prevent this while inside.

They cant turn power off if there's under 5s its against the law.but they don't want to do that anyway. You must contact them though. You cant hide and hope it goes away, coz it wont. You will feel a lot easier after you talk to them, after all they cant get blood from a stone you have no worries at all if you contact them and any other bodies that you might owe. They just want to know/think your trying.they will help.Do the lottery just in case lol.

The only people they cant cut off is persons on life support systems. Other than that, if the heat got cut off, no one will instantly die, the adult should know to take corrective action, such as pay the bill or take the family to a shelter. If not the responsible adult will be held liable.

On my first jury duty a woman got 5 years in jail for endangering her kids by letting them live in those conditions. As almost always is the case, she could afford plenty of beer and crack, but couldn't pay the bills or feed her kids.

If a person comes to your house and says they have to check the meter dont let them in. They are there to shut u off. Dont let them into the house. You should not let anyone in your house anyway. If you live in an apartment, well then you loose. Yes. They can because the landlord will let them in.

If that person isnt paying for their gas or electric, its their own fault. Otherwise, there should be no reason for the gas and electric to turn off..

You gotta pay the bill, period. There may be some folks that would hold off because of the children but they would be the exception for sure! No tickey-no washy!

People if they can't pay, need to contact the company. They WILL work with you. They will not give you the power, but they will not turn of your power if you reach a deal.

If you don't, you only have yourself to blame.

I think they need to be careful about cutting off service in the cold months because of the liability issues.

Contact the companies and see if they have a program or can refer you to one that would be beneficial.

If you don't pay your bill and don't talk to them, they will turn it off.

Good luck, sweetie.
