There's a big difference between social anxiety and Social Anxiety Disorder. The first is about people who feel anxious in social situations. Often, such people can get over their nervousness simply by maturing or telling themselves not to care.
Social Anxiety Disorder is totally different. It's very real, very constant; it's part of your brain and it won't just disappear via mental brute force.

If you want you can check out the book "The Highly Sensitive Person" by Elaine Aron; it was really helpful for me. It may or may not apply to you though (check out the website: http://www.hsperson.com/); there's a self-test and all.

Hi I agree with the first response.
It is all in your head!
The anxious feelings happen as a result of your thoughts.
When you feel this way, what were you thinking?
What did you tell yourself?
The same way your body reacts to negative thoughts, it will do the same for positive ones.
You have to train your mind to think positive thoughts.
Sometimes even telling that voice to shut up works!
Please be able to laugh at yourself!
Remember, you did not develop social anxiety over night, so it will take some time and effort to get rid of it. When you feel the anxiety coming, start talking to yourself. Tell yourself that it's just anxiety. It wont hurt you! Tell yourself what a confident person you are. Always treat yourself good. If you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, catch yourself! Turn it into the complete opposite. Soon you will realize that you are in control and it will be a very freeing experience.

i have. and I'm actually quite popular...what really changed things for me was that i realized the anxiety was all in my head. i was fearing unreasonable things...once i realized this i was able to consciously change my habits.
once you have identified that you have an issue with social anxiety, you need to be extremely introspective and figure out what the triggers are and WHY you feel the way you feel....it takes some work, but at that point you need to just make the change. little by little. its not an over night thing. good luck to you!

Yes I have. It is not easy or quick though to work around it. first you need to talk to your doc about it. I found that going out with a small group to a friends house helps you prepare for larger settings. I always make sure that I have at least one person that I can call or have them with me in case I need a little support.

You just have to Talk to yourself over and over and say, EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY!!!
And put yourself in the most uncomfortable situation (keep saying to yourself EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE OKAY) and Repeat.
until you feel better!
Forget Meds and therapy just talk to GOD!
