It makes jack all difference in your lives, so why criticise it?

You don't have to wach gay people at it, just like they don't have to watch you. Gay people often feel like it's 'wrong' when they make out/have sex with the opposite sex or see heterosexual couples being physical.

And if your view isn't just personal opinion and fear of differences (which I actually think most people's homophobia is, whetever they justify it with,) why should everyone be part of your religion/set of ethics anyway? Christianity, for a start, teaches that people should preach the word of the Lord - that means telling it to people and letting them take it in, not judging them yourselves and trying to force them into it.

Jeez... What is the world coming to...

My very dear child, if all the Christians actually did what Jesus asked them to do and would love their neighbors as they love themselves then the world would be a much better place. Wecan always keep hoping that they will see that Light. Kind of odd to actually turnabout on that one, isn't it. Blessings.

Some people attack homosexuality because they carry views that are very old fashioned.
Many years ago homosexuality was indeed quite harmful to society, but nowadays it is not, and there are considerable benefits from it in terms of improved quality of life and productivity from gays.
Why was it harmful in the past? Because gay men often have a preference to sleep around with lots of other men. In the past it was not understood how this could cause the transmission of disease which could kill thousands (I am talking about bacterial disease that would nowadays be easily cured)
I think it is also possibly the case that to maintain the population in the face of a very high infant mortality rate it was necessary for every male who had survived childhood to reproduce as much as possible, for the survival of the species.

I totally agree. I think it's a combination of many factors. Ignorance, fear, bad parenting, poor education. They believe in lies, assumptions and generalizing stereotypes because only those things back up their irrational hatred. Reality and the truth do not support their ignorant bigotry.
I'm assuming they are lonely, miserable people who must somehow feel superior to others when they lash out and attack them.

I am gay, but I'm not afraid to admit that lots of gay men have anonymous unprotected sex at saunas and pass on sexually transmitted diseases all the time. Maybe they're lazy, or don't care or maybe some deliberately pass on HIV because they are bitter.

When it costs tax-payers $340 per night to pay for a gay man breathing oxygen from a cylinder pumped full of morphine because 10 years ago he was fucked in a back alley at midnight without a condom by some guy he didn't even know the name of, homosexual promiscuity becomes everybody's *problem*.

If the gay community want respect -- WE HAVE TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF OUR HEALTH. Use a CONDOM!!! ALWAYS.

I think all couples being overtly physical in public are just showing bad manners, whether or not they are gay or straight. People who feel the need to judge or condemn people are not true Christians anyway as you are commanded by Christ himself to love your neighbour as yourself. There are many things, however, regarded sinful in the practice of the religion, including taking life, stealing and adultery. Whilst no one is casting a stone at anyone, and in my experience gay and Lesbian people are among the nicest, most loving and kind people there can be, the issue is that a government cannot force you, under fear of persecution to act against your own faith and prescribe what you should believe or accept. Freedom of conscience has always been part of our society, but obviously no more. Many Christians in the past have died for their beliefs, without attacking anyone. Catholic adoption agencies are paid a fee for placing difficult children (aspergers, disabled) with people, who because of their deep faith are moved to care for them. Obviously the Church cannot go against the laws of God and will have to close down those agencies, which is a shame. There is a real sense of people 'ganging up' on the church without any real understanding of our community and these are the people judging us.You are quite right that to judge others is a sin yet it is also wrong to force people to act against deeply held beliefs like us. We are not a club. Our millions of Christians growing world wide are the Body of Christ and what Christ has left on earth to teach people how to grow in love and purity. Tolerance has to come from both sides, and charity and respect for the marvellous work the Catholic charities do. Every Catholic Church in the country is involved in financially supporting this work, and whilst a fee is paid by the government when someone is found to adopt a disabled or autistic child, the whole community all 4 million of us-and growing- save in collection boxes all year to help funding..It would be interesting to know which agency will take this over. We are a sincere group of people who live in our community trying only to strengthen it.The assertion that Christians attack homosexual people is quite wrong. Our Catholic religion is based on the family, that is all and we are encouraged to comply with the teachings of Christ..I just wish more people were non-judgemental, especially against anyone who believe differently from them .That works both ways, doesn't it? There are many local authorities discriminating against Christian couples adopting for example. Why is this not against the law? The answer is that kindness, tolerance and gentleness, love and acceptance are the most important with respect for others' religious beliefs, even if we don't like them.It is love that binds us together in the human race. There are so many angry people with grudges and axes to grind, who just need to be rude and dominate and ridicule others. There is more homophobia outside the church with loud mouthed yobs picking on others for being fat, skinny, spotty etc or even make racist comments in order to boost themselves up as being perfect or cool, thinking nothing of the hurt caused. All it is, is BULLYING totally unloving, anti-Christian and evil.

I think it's because of the way in which they have been brought up, everyone has their own beliefs as to what is right and-or wrong...you can't change the habits of a life time over night.

And if your view isn't just personal opinion and fear of differences (which I actually think most people's homophobia is, whatever they justify it with,)

This is the answer, fear, there are only two emotions that rule all of our lives.
love and fear it's not "most" of the cause of homophobia, it's all of it.

The only way to defeat it is with love.

Ok, ok - don't get outta your pram. It's not the homosexuals so much as the ones who flaunt it, and act like fairies. Take Graham Norton for instance with his stupid silly laugh etc. I have a couple of men friends who are homosexuals and they are lovely. Because they have female traits I find them very understanding of me (a woman). Pity there are those who spoil it for the rest.

Psychoanalysis explains violent homophobic responses with the concept of "Reaction Formation": people develop violently irrational positions or beliefs to try to disavow what they're really anxious about - their own sexual or gender identity. It helps them feel better about themselves, but it's a pain in the neck for the rest of us.
