In 1950 Congressman Richard Nixon cosponsored the "Internal Security Act" to round up suspected "communists" in the early rounds of the Red Scare, when every person who voiced a humanist thought or concern for personal freedom was immediately suspected of being a secret spy for Russian Totalitarianism.
Truman was president, and immediately vetoed it, but the Right Wing Congress overrode the veto. (in those days there were liberals and crazy wingers in both parties.) It gave the president the right to declare martial law, and put people in concentration camps if they objected, or most any other reason.
A lot of stupid laws were passed at that time including replacing "E Pluribus Unum" with "In God we trust" on Money and adding "Under God" into the Pledge of Allegiance, putting a big lie to the "indivisible", and "liberty" and "Justice for all" parts that came after.
In 1974 with his credibility shattered Nixon asked for a hypothetical answer as to what would happen if he invoked the act he had cosponsored a quarter century before. He was informed that he was past the tipping point, the press, the Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Military would fight him on it, and further the structural needs like detention camps did not exist, nor did the bureaucracy to run them. So with Impeachment certain Nixon was allowed to resign.
Many of the people who were there then are back now, and remember when Nixon was not prepared to destroy Democracy.
They are prepared now, Haliburton has the contract to build the secret detention camps. Any US Attorneys General that are not Bush Pschophants are being pushed out, and replaced misusing another provision of the "patriot" act without Congressional oversight.
As he has broken any number of US and International laws without comeuppance, leaving office in two years would be a pleasant relief if it happens.

No president has ever disolved our government - its actually impossible for the president to do that. Elections cannot be suspended and the term of office of a president cannot be extended without an ammendment to our constitution (which congress and the states would both have to ratify) No branch of government can disolve another - our constitution has made all of them permanent. I'm sure there have been a few that have wished they could do such a thing... part of me wants to say that Andrew Jackson concocted a plan like this, but I cant supply you any evidence to substantiate...
An excellent example though of this actually happening in History would be Adolph Hitler. He was appointed chancellor in the 1930's and quickly asked for the "emergency powers" that eventually made him and his Nazi party the dictating party of Germany.

No, take care of it, Obama is the WORST president ever. look on the rustic, it incredibly is in undesirable shape. Mitt Romney proved this night why he could be PRESIDENT, he spoke like one, he stood like one, Obama proved he remains INCOMPETENT. you're comparing Romney to Stalin or Rommel? do you be conscious of that Obama's rules have been UNCONSTITUTIONAL? meaning against a record that has secure the yank human beings for over two hundred YEARS? which incorporate Obamacare which violates the 4th, 5th, seventh, 9th and incredibly the 10th substitute with regard to the commerce clause? Obama did not look for advice from CONGRESS while he exceeded Obamacare. How do you not see that as a challenge?

First he would have to declare martial law which could only happen if the entire country started rioting. And if he suspended all elections he would have to deal with the current majority of Libby D's until 2012. No I would not support it.

1) I would not go along with this for many reasons, but here is my strongest argument. Disrupting democratic process here would be just plain wrong, but doing it based upon the instincts of a terribly inept president would be utter lunacy.
2) I cannot think of a time when a president considered or did this, but specifics about past presidencies from history classes have faded from memory.

No one in the country would go along with it.
He would be impeached overnight, and rightly so. The United States of America is not some 5-cent third-world country.
And Bush would never do it. I doubt that any American president would.

If Bush pulls something like that, then he's going to worrying about a lot more than just terrorists.
I don't go along with it, we need a change of power, he's stepped on too many people's toes and we need a fresh start to look at what's going on and decide what to do, and go from there.
As for the second part of your question, I can't think of any president that has done or thought about this. IDK.

First of all Bush would have to start a coup and in order to do that he would need a lot US military help but with most US troops overseas it would be very difficult for him to do that. And if he were to bring the troops home to help him with his coup then the terrorists would take over Iraq/Afghanistan and he wouldn't want that to happen.

Can't happen. Even Roosevelt in WWII had to run for president in the middle of this planets greatest war.
