money. money change it from a culture to a business once kids started making some serious cash from it they record labels saw a opportunity to bleed it dry. thats why you dont hear talib kweli or common on the radio as much as whatever bull crap rapper the south just put out, who has the potential to make the most money will get the most shine. thats why ludacris and kanye west gotta camouflage theyre music so people wont catch on that they listening to real hiphop tricked out to sound like whatevers hot at the moment. its a shame.

There is very little art in mainstream hip-hop. Most artists release songs on the radio and mtv about sex, drugs, money, etc. because it's what fans buy into. Hip-hop is business and these people are trying to make money. On the other hand, if you buy an artists album instead of just listening to what's on the radio and mtv, you may find some actually art. Alot of rappers don't release artistic songs because at this current time, it's not what sells.

there is still a lot of decent Hip hop out there, it's just not released on to the radio and onto music tv, the best stuff is still underground and a lot of the artists out there still do a lot of the underground scene you just really have to dig deep to get it...
