Those in the conservative circles who are of stronger based Christianity (otherwise known as Christian Fundamentalists) support Israel because Isreal's position is necessary to bring about the apocolypse.

Those is liberal circles support Israel because they are afraid of looking anti-semitic.

Me, I'm a libertarian. I say that if Israel wants to play in the sand box with the big boys, it shouldn't run to Uncle Sam every time it gets a booboo.

Probably because our government feels guilty for their deliberate neglect of the Jews' plight during WWII. Members of the U. S. government knew what was happening to Jews in Europe long before the victims of the concentration camps were liberated, yet chose to say and do nothing about it. One might say that they are indulging in an exercise of self-flagellation. The current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue especially may have cause to feel remorse, and thus bend over backward to help Israel. His grandfather, Prescott Bush, ran one or more oil companies in eastern Europe largely on the backs of Jewish slave labor before and during WWII. Sort of like doing penance for the sins of the fathers, or grandfathers, in this case.

Fact of the matter is that Israel's intell has been a value to us more than once in the Middle East. Their Mussahd makes our CIA look like we are just playing at spies. They have infiltrated almost every Middle Eastern government. Everybody needs a friend like that.

Its the only democracy in the Middle East, it took scud bombs without retaliation during the Gulf War, it bombed the Iran nuclear facility years ago and saved us from doing it, if we need a place to go or retreat to Israel will stand with us.
If we are a great country, we do what is right for us and our allies, and we are not to be dictated to by small countries with small minds.

Because Israel is a parliamentary democracy surround by military dictatorships. Or as Nixon said in 1972, "Because it's right."

I have a better question: Why are the EU and UN overly supportive of the "Palestinians"?

Listen I have had enough of this crap. If it has evaded your attention we also give undue support to Saudi Arabia which happens to be where Mecca and Medina are. Both are major religious centers and it is in our best interests to support and and aid both, which we do. And I don't want to hear the oil crap we have had relations with the Saudis before we were customers.
