No, absolutely not! But I have to tell you a funny story. This woman had a gynecologist appointment for later in the day for her annual check up. The phone rang as she was rushing the kids out the door to school and her husband off to work. It was the doctors office wanting to know if she could be there in 45 minutes as they had moved up her appointment. She said sure. She knew it would take her 30 minutes to get there and she was still in her PJ. She didn't have time to take a shower and make sure everything was fresh "down there" so she grabbed the washcloth off the sink and did a quick wash job and throw the cloth in the dirty clothes. At the doctor's office, he came in to do the exam and exclaim, "my, someone decked out for the occasion", but she wasn't paying any attention, she was thinking of the beach or anywhere but there. The rest of her day went along great until her daughter came home from school and yelled "mom, where's the washcloth that was on the sink?" Her mom replied "in the dirty laundry." "But mom," her daughter yelled, "all my glitter was saved inside!"

The person who does it is looking inside you using special tools. Your hair won't get in the way one bit. Some women like to shave before anyone sees down there but most ladies leave themselves natural.
If I was you I would leave my vulva hairy unless you normally shave or wax it. The medical staff have seen all kinds of vulvas so they won't mind how much hair you have and unless you are used to shaving yourself there then it will itch a lot when the hair grows back - also the skin there is very soft and sensitive so you don't want to irritate or risk cutting that area.
I am sure your test will go very well and that you are very healthy down there. If you don't worry to much it will be over quicker than if you feel frightened.

I seriously doubt that your gynecologist is going to care whether or not you have pubic hair down there or not. (It holds no importance when it comes to having your yearly check-up....) So don't worry about it, unless it makes you feel more comfortable by trimming it up a bit and maybe shaving around the pantyline to make it look a little neater for your own peace of mind and also for your hygiene. Good luck at your first appointment for the pap smear!

Not necessary at all, and not recommended unless thats your thing anyway.
Smears are very quick and although embarassing they are necessary to make sure us women stay healthy.
Doesnt hurt and remember the nurse (or doctor) has probably done them hundreds of times before.

I assume you mean paps smear. No you do not have to shave for this to be done. They go inside you, it can be a little uncomfortable but not too bad.
here is more information to ease your mind.

No, you're not required to remove your hair, that is totally up to you. Personally, yes i like to do a little trim job. But the doc could probably care less. -Liz

They do stuff on the inside, not the outside, so it's not necessary... just make sure you're fresh and clean..

Absolutely not - unless you'd like to. But it's not necessary in the slightest.

Nope...hair can stay. I would suggest showering before, it's only polite! Good luck!
