Female circumcision is the cultural or religious mutilation of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. There are three types, each more extensive than the last. They are too detailed to explain here, but they are explained on wikipedia.
The practice of female circumcision is highly controversial, as it is seen by some as the domination of women by men and has serious medical consequences.
Hope this answers your question.
