Oh, if you watch the previous series, whenever they need a new main character, they make him die and come back as a new form.
The series with David Tennat has just ended, and they have a new girl instead of Rose. It was shown in the Christmas Special. Try downloading it from BBC.

*LOL* I have been through all of the doctors since #3 (and even some of #1, both#1's from the series and the movie)- david tennant is #10- the doctor is a time lord, he regenerates when he needs to. as for what happened- rose had to go to the other dimension, she is safe but no longer travelling with the beloved doctor, don't worry- he has a new companion all lined up

I don't think the holiday break is over. It is traditional on Dr. Who to have a new body every year.
