The War of 1812 WAS won by the U.S. In particular, Andrew Jackson won the Battle of New Orleans. Consider things the other way around: What if Andrew Jackson had NOT won the Battle of New Orleans (late! LOL) The British could have repudiated the peace Treaty of Ghent and resumed warfare on the U.S., maybe with worse results for us. Please rest assured: The U.S. won the War of 1812.

Interesting question and interesting answers. Especially about the defeat in New Orleans putting paid to any chance for a restart. We would have been hard pressed to pull it out with the Brits on the Mississippi, our trade in ruins and our Capitol burned. Its a good thing the English had something better to do in Europe with their resources. They continued to cause problems on the upper Great Lakes for some time, the frontier was a bit hazy for a long time.
On the Canadian matter; had we prevailed there, I believe we would have sent the Quebecois, had they proved troublesome, to live with their relatives in Louisiana.
