Actually this is not an unreasonable a question as some seem to think. Jack Black was born in 1969, Full Metal Jacket was released in 1987 so he would have been 18 at the time (not 12 as some suggest).
His first credited appearnace in a film imdb is 1991 but he may have done extra work before that or even acted under a different name.

Jack Black's earliest screen appearance was in 1991, in a TV-movie. Full Metal Jacket was released in 1987. You might be thinking of Vincent D'Onofrio, who played Private Pyle, the guy that the Sargeant kept picking on. Kinda looks like Jack Black, I suppose.

Jack Black was about twelve when Full Metal Jacket was released....and it's a good thing, because I have no doubt he would have ruined that movie too.

No. It was Vincent D'Onofrio. At the time he did look like Jack Black. In Mars Attacks, Jack Black did play a similar character with a shaved head.

No, but Matthew Modine was, and, if you've seen "Memphis Belle" he plays the pilot called Dennis. Full Metal Jacket was also filmed in London's Docklands.
