Do u want to know rhe origin of the Valentine's Day? Ok, here it goes.....

It was a long, long time ago, in Rome. It was wartime and the evil emperor Claudius won't let anyone married, or even engaged. He was afraid that his soldiers won't want to go fight anymore if they have girlfriends or new wives at home. As it happens, the war's been going so long that the soldiers have lost heart anyway.

Only there was a prest called Valentine who secretly defied Claudius and performed marriage ceremonies in the temple. Soon he was known far and wide as the friend of lovers. But to Claudius he was an enemy, pure and simple. The angry emperor had trown him in jail. There, he was befriended by the jailkeeper's blind daughter. Still, liife in prison was hard and the kindhearted priest slowly weakened. Just before his death, he cured the jailer's daughter of her blindness and on the day he died, he wrote her a note in which he spoke about the bonds of affection between people. He signed the message "From your Valentine". It was February 14, 270 A.D.

Even earlier than 270, and long before the Romans became Christians, they used to celebrate a feast called Lupercalia. It was to honour a god who was thought to protect shepherds and their sheep from wolves. At this feast, boys would draw the names of the girls who would then become their compagnions for the year.

But once the Romans became Christians, the priests wanted peolpe to forget their pagan gods. Lupercalia was changed into the Feast of Saint Valentine. They managed to spoil some of the fun though, because at this feast, boys had to draw names of saints instead of girls. The idea was that the young men were to adopt their saints as models of good behavior for the coming year.

But soon enough the custom went back to a celebration of love. People began to give cards and flowers to the sepcial loves of their lives and children began to exchange greetings with their friends.

Through the details have changed over the years, Valentine's Day is celebrated by millions of people every February, The spirit of St. Valentine, the kind priest who lived his life with love, is still in us all.

St Valentine is currently held as the patron saint of lovers, it's supposed to be the one day when you can shed you inhibitions about the way you feel towards some one you are attracted to, if you're not in a relationship then you can do it secretly, it's just a day when you can have a little bit of extra fun and make things a little more interesting...

Valentine's day is named after St. Valentine. He united a pagan and christian in marriage and was killed for it. So, if a relationship can stand up to the test of religion it is love. My husband and I are different religions and we enjoy Valentine's Day even though it is catholic.

Because we are forced to be romantic on valentines day. The rest of the year (except for 'anniversaries & birthdays) we get to be ourselves.

Valentines day is for women, period.
