Good question!

I only know a little about the huns.

The huns go back a very long time. They were a clan of central asian barbaric nomadic warriors. They spread from Asia into Europe in the 4th century. They are said to have occupied most of Central-Asia from the 4th to the 6th century.

Historians still argue if the origins of the Huns trace from China, Persia, or Armenian sources.

It is difficult to trace, because the word 'Hun' has been thrown about, used mainly to describe clans of warriors in history of whom not much is known. There are different classifications used by people, such as, 'White Huns'. They left no record.

The Huns did invade China around the time of 'Mulan', and also traveled into Europe, and can trace back to invading Rome.
But it is said that they first invaded China, then Europe. The Chinese defeated them in 151 at the lake of Barkol, in present day Mongolia. and they fled to Kazakhstan.

Yes there really the same folks and they are Asian. Remember that not everyone who lives in Asia looks Chinese. Even not all the Chinese look Chinese. What I think is confusing you is seeing this as a war between modern nations. These nations did not exist then as we know them now. Mongolia was not a nation it was a place with fuzzy edges, Attila's Capital City, was a bunch of really big Yurts on wheels, an equivalent of a convoy of large motor homes pulled by oxen. One good thing here, you have questioned the history you have received from movies. Continue to do so. Look up these people you have seen on reputable web sights and read about the real happenings. Save the movie experience for entertainment. But there is no harm of having your interest or critical facilities piqued by films.
