Im sorry people are offending your aunt. But maybe your aunt is a prison gard in a highly black populated area. Most american prisons have a variety of inmates. although it does seem like a lot are black its definetly not 90%

When I was in college, I did some research into crime statistics. This was back in 1990, so the numbers aren't the same, but according to the FBI, there were more white-collar crimes being committed by white men than street crimes committed by black men, but there were 3 times the number of black men arrested than white. I incorporated these, and other statistics, into a symposium on race relations and the bias in our society that excuses white-collar crime at such a high rate.

Overall crime statistics regarding violent crimes showed that white men were more often arrested for committing rape, but black men were more likely to be convicted for that crime. In addition, while there were just as many white suspects arrested for armed robbery, drug dealing, and assaults, black men were twice as likely to receive convictions. Sentencing also is biased. A white man convicted of armed robbery had an average sentence of 3 to 5 years, while a black man convicted of the same offense carried a sentence of 7-10 years.

What this information boils down to is that whites and blacks commit crimes at roughly equal numbers, but blacks get arrested more often, get convicted more often, and get longer sentences more often.

So, all that prison statistics can show is that more black people are convicted than white, and that at any given time, there are more black people in prison than white people.

I don't think it's 90%, but the ratio of black males in prison is high! That's because in America black males tend to come from poor areas and have little money for attorneys. This means that we have to settle for mediocre law representation and are more likely to be convicted by a jury. I am black and have never been to jail as most of my friends have not either. I chose the military as an escape from being in poverty.

I am a member of mothers with sons in prison - not one of them is black...we are a support group - there are hundreds and hundreds of people in there who are not black. When I went to see my son it seemed to me they were mostly spanish and white...90% is a very high number to claim...maybe in the south, but not in the north and the west or in canada...maybe we should be asking why there are so many non-violent prisoners and how to rehabilitate them ...once the non-violent prisoners are out of jail there are HUGE HUGE fines to pay probation, have to take classes, and constantly watched...and after a while, they become exasperated, frustrated BECAUSE THE SYSTEM DOESN'T WORK...for blacks, whites, hispanics, juveniles...it doesn't work. People go back to jail because society just doesn't work for these folks. It is not just blacks, it is everyone. If you haven't got money, you are not going to get out of the system, no matter what...unless you bust your ***...prison sucks, money talks no matter what color...and that is the bottom line. money is justice in this country.

in the time of the Bush/Republican years the type of minority owned companies rose by potential of a whopping 70%. this is progression for useful, yet Democrats try their absolute toughest to convey them back to the plantation. Do you get that? study, "they think of you're stupid" by potential of Herman Cain. Democrats be attentive to that in the event that they misplaced purely 25% of the minority vote they would not in any respect, EVER win yet another election. the final ingredient they choose for is for minorities to progression. **by using fact that whites outnumber minorities 4 to a million, that is in basic terms logical that extra whites could be undesirable. besides the undeniable fact that, once you look at welfare numbers by potential of race, a plenty bigger share of minorities are on government information. Is the US as racist as it used to be? No, but there is still a considerable amount of racism in the country that does impede the progress of blacks. However, a lot of the problem is our fault, in that a sort of strange mentality has taken hold of black America, one I call "ghettoism" that values hustling and what not over an actual education that will get you farther in life.
So, lack of opportunity due to racism brings poverty plus the ghetto mentality = a high black prison population.
