Anyone make jewelry for hobby?

How do you get started? What supplies are needed?

To begin,learn the basics by purchasing a magazine such as JewelryCraft and trying to duplicate some of the projects inside. A kit of assorted inexpensive beads will be good for practice and can be purchased at any craft store. The tools you must have are round nose jewelry pliers, wire cutters and a crimp tool. You can purchase them together in a kit for about 10-15 dollars. Besides the beads, you need wire (start with tiger tail...it is cheaper than the better wire and stronger so it won't break on you as you are trying to master the crimp tool ),2mm crimp beads,an assortment of clasps ( toggle clasps are the easiest to work with as a beginner). Follow the helpful directions in the magazine...they usually have tutorials on how to use a crimp,etc.,and before you know it you will be designing jewelry your friends will salivate over.

Stretchy beaded jewelry is easiest; all you need it the string and beads. I would start you with beading string, a cone-nosed plier and regular pliers, crimp beads, lobster clasps (to close necklaces and bracelets), and head pins. You can make a very simple beaded necklace with a pendant or charms very easily with the supplies I listed. As you get the hang of things, you can figure out how to make more complex pieces.

basically you can if you live in a bigger city go to any craft store and the people working there should be able to tell you what you need and show you some of the basics. Now these people will be trying to get you to buy something but that doesn't mean you cant learn what you need to know and then go somewhere cheaper to buy your supplies. There are also lots of magazines out there to use many have basics and beginner designs in them.

That depends on how in depth you want to go. Do you want to just start with "stretchy" cord and put beads on and tie the knot? Do you want to wire wrap (where you see the wire twisted around the ends of beads or do you want to just string some beads and add a closure? Let me know and I can try to help.

I DO! I took no class just used my imagination! it is simple. Choose your wire or cord, beads, crimp beads and clasp. Measurements are good! Say a wrist is 6 in. you want 7 to make sure you have enoughr room to tie off. Good luck .
