Good Question.
Obviously it's a problem as 2 out of 3 people, who had answered the question before me, couldn't spell half their words right.
I doubt it has anything to do with teachers. They have always been paid very little in most countries. It's this whole PC thing going on...cannot put too much pressure on kids, move at the speed of the slowest kid... bla bla bla..A.D.D. and other stupid crap.
Where I'm from, American college would sound like a joke to a 2nd grader. Starting from 1st grade, they study from 8am to 3pm, Monday through Saturday, with amazing amount of homework most of which simply has to be "memorized". Try memorizing "Beowolf" in its original English in a 9th grade foreign language class. Oh hell, you probably don't even know what "Beowolf" is...
Grading is done this way: one mistake - B, 2 mistakes - C, anything more F . Tests are performed every day, none of them are multiple question...
Try getting an A then... And if you don't, then you have ZERO chance getting into college!
They made it way too easy for American students to be mediocre..it's accepted..oh hell, why study well, if "my daddy" is gonna pay for my college anyways. And that's considering how easy it is, compared to most other cultures/countries.

Well, the public Education program is a reflection of the quality of the students. Parents are at fault for this fiasco. They send out these kids who don't know their alphabet nor can they sit still for ten minutes at a time in order to learn. Kids come to class with Ipods that cost $400, but they cannot buy them computers, Hooked on phonics or other education enhancing technologies.
As Teachers, there is a shortage due to the lousy working conditions. Today alone I had a girl yelling out racial slurs at me and laughing. This is a reflection of the home environment and is not the type of mindset that will allow Education to flourish.
As teachers, we have to dumb down the curriculum in order to cater to apathetic students. We can't have 30% of the students failing, so we cater to that lousy 30%.
We can fix it when we hold parents accountable, financially. I say we charge the parents of behaviorally challenged students and students who lack Learning disabilities and still fail. They are just wasting seats IMO.
Parental accountability is the key! You can pour all the money from the Iraq war into the schools, it wouldn't change the fact that students are unprepared and some parents do not care. We should make them pay.

In many ways, yes. We have seen the more affluent suburbs get the best teachers, resources, buildings and supplies due to one thing...higher taxes in that suburb.
If you live in a poverty stricken community, just as in the one I teach in, you would see families who live in humble surroundings who have little or no higher education themselves. Some parents feel very strong about giving their children the best education that they can. It is not always possible to give them an ivy league school education when you are living in a community that has to cut costs every year.
The families that have the most difficulty providing a better learning/living environment are larger families and single parent households. We offer frequent meetings and after school tutoring for students, but not all students and parents are driven by the free offers to get ahead or even "catch up".
I am in no hurry to get home, so I would stay at school as long as they need. Many of the head of households within our school system are grandmothers, single parents or foreign speaking adults. These folks do their best, but they lack the education and motivational skills themselves needed to guide students effectively.
If our parents had more time to work with one child at night, they would succeed much better. But with 3 or 4 students in the same school, the parents are overwhelmed and cannot meet the demands. Some of our parents work two jobs to feed their large families so quality time is not available.
It is not my place to suggest planned parenthood, but it is so much easier and less expensive to raise one child to be successful than to try to juggle 3, 4 or 5 children on a single income. Less expenses = more money for better housing and more time with children at night.

particular, and this has been going on some many years, slow yet stable. for the reason that maximum mothers and fathers, and instructors are themselves graduates of those, it incredibly is extremely not undemanding to get them to take a serious look at it, through fact they're high-quality with that status quo; it substitute into sturdy for them, why not for their babies. in the past there substitute into mandatory education, the U. S. had between the optimal literacy quotes, now it incredibly is dismal at ultimate. we've greater babies/young people who can examine, yet slightly comprehend what they're examining, and enable us to not even touch on their ability to jot down, or talk the two in writing, or speech. we've created an phantasm of "sense sturdy", it does not count how properly they do, as long as they sense sturdy approximately it, and in the event that they can't, decrease the expectancy. self-incredibly worth, supply me a harm, a guy or woman feels sturdy approximately actual accomplishments, those you may artwork not undemanding for; it boosts their self assurance of their very own information. And particular there'll be some who fail, it incredibly is a lesson too; it enables you to be conscious of which you may attempt back, and back, or pass in a different path; learn a commerce; college isn't for each physique. each and each guy or woman can, and could be triumphant while allowed to advance their organic skills, yet all desire a undemanding sturdy education in examining, writing, and math. reducing the bar seems super on paper; grades, and severe GPA's. Being 2 to 3 years below the place they could be is despite if not doing them any favors. it's going to cause them to sense sturdy for a rapid time, till they could pass out into the "actual international", and locate out they have lots yet to earnings, and sweetness why it incredibly is for the reason that they graduated. How come my company, or college instructor expects a super form of me, why are they so not undemanding on me? e book techniques: John Taylor Gatto (any). the tough reality with regard to the prevalent public faculties by Bruce N. It's the parents fault for not teaching there kids correctly and letting them be brought up by tv. And it is also the states for cutting the budget. The intelligent people that need to be teachers usually are swayed to be something else due to the low pay.
