i cant understand how some people might find it degrading that.. a bunch of people judge ur looks and performance based on wat u've got..

But i find it interesting.. I dont know whether its because the world is bombarded with the search for perfection.. but id like to think that their is actually women out there that is pretty but smart as well..

on one hand, they are scholarship contests. I question why someone would spend thousands of dollars on dresses, pictures, and coaches to win these things. Are girls being paraded and rewarded for being pretty? Why not go back to the Sally home-maker days when women were objectified?

If pagents were really worried about the girls and want them to use their prizes towards school or a good cause, why are so many starving themselves to be thin to compare to the next? It just goes to show how shallow some people can be; there isn't a contest for inner beauty.

Some will argue that it is fun and builds friendships. A better alternative is sports, art, music lessons, dance.

Hate them. No one should be judged on physical looks. Beauty contests should be about the good deeds a person has done and their kindness which makes them 'beautiful', not some off-key singing chick in a swim-suit.

What I really hate are the beauty pagents for little girls. Their mothers dress them up and put make-up on them so they look like little hookers. Why don't they just say, "here Mr. Child Moster, come look at my daughter!"

For people 16 and older, they are fine, as these folks can have an active say in wether they want to participate or not, and be articulate about it. Younger children may or may not enjoy these
contests or pagents, but I think many young kids want to please Mommy and even if they disliked them they may be reluctant to express this because they don't want to disappoint.
