A stock 1955 Chevy came with a 235 cubic inch 6 cylinder and a 265 cubic inch V8. I saw your question about drag racing, if you wont to know what engine is in it, ask the owner or driver.

Paul is correct. The '55 V8 was a 265Cu in. In '56 Chevy bored it out to 283Cu in. If you have anything else it Ain't original.

None of the above. From the factory a 265 cubic inch Chevrolet overhead valve engine with no oil filter on it.

'55 Chevy had two engine choices:
235 "blue flame" six cylinder
265 "turbo-fire" V8. Chevy's first OHV V8.
'55 was also Chevy's first year for 12 volt batteries.

either a 265 small block v8 or an inline six OHV(not flathead)engine came with it originally. anything else isn't original.

I am not sure if they ere making the big block 348 or 409 that year.
