My daughter's young corn snake got out of its tank last night and we have torn the place apart looking for it. Can they survive going down a heating duct? It had just finished molting yesterday. HELP!!!

Take a bucket/box and hang a warm heating lamp over it. Just use the one that should be on top of your snake's cage. Anyways, hang the lamp over the bucket/box and put a not to steep, climbable ramp up to it. The snake will want to bask in it so it will go to the bucket/box and eventually find the ramp. He will go up the ramp and fall in the bucket/box. He will probably want to get out so make sure it's higher than he can reach. The container should be 5in. over his length. Put some padding at the bottom so he doesn't hurt himself when he goes in. If it's to high he will get hurt. Because he finished molting he probably won't want to eat for a few days but if you're still searching put the food you're feeding him, which is probably pinkies, at the bottom of the box. If the food is dead make sure to throw it out at the end of the day if it isn't eaten or it will rot. Don't use live food. You shoudn't be anyway becuase a young corn snake would surely be killed by it. Also make sure the lamp isn't to close to the box edge or the snake will burn himself going in. A large cardboard box with high walls and a medium area will be great. Just put this contraption where you think he will be, usually in small spaces. It would be great if you could set up multiple boxes. If you have any pets like dogs or cats or any animal that is given free roam of the house I would try to find him faster. If you are very worried about the heating ducts call the fire dept. or an animal rescue team. DO NOT call an exterminator. He might resort to chemicals and killing traps.

Snakes can get into almost ANYPLACE. Check in the couch springs, under the stove, any crevace type place he can fit into. If you think he may have gottten into the duct, if you have access, go in the basement and tap on the duct all the way through, you will hear a different sound if theres somthing in there, and listen carefully because this may cause him to move. Mine got into my stereo speaker, and i rattled him out by turning up the base.

thats good that he finished molting yesterday, that means that he wont haft to eat for a few days. my guess is that you should take a pillow case, look for the perfect area for the snake to be, and when you find it slide the pillow case over it and put it in its cage. if I knew where it was I would tell you, sorry. hope it works!
