I get what has happened. And I understand what you feel. You obviously care very much for your pufferfishes. Don't listen to these people they do not know how to answer a question NICELY!!
In all pufferfishes lives they puff up at LEAST once. So probably when this happens you will be around. If you see it puff up just take a picture and you will have it for all to see. =]]
I feel sorry for the people that have answered this question because they clearly do not have respect for other people. Only their fish. Now tell me... WHY ARENT FISH TAKING OVER THE WORLD BECAUSE YOU SEEM TO THINK THEY ARE HUMANS!! Be kind to your peers. DONT TELL THEM TO DIE!!!
As for taking care of your Puffers, good luck. And it seems that you have been doing a fantastic job since you have had them for such a long time!
Best Wishes!!

can a porcupine puffer fish? yes. can a figure 8 puffer fish? no. Puffing up for a puffer fish is equivalent to a heart attack in a human and is extreme stress and 95% of the time leads to death at an early age. do not encourage your puffer to puff up Note. Porcupine puffers need a 95 gallon tank to themselves figure 8 puffers need a 10

You KNOW it's stressful and that it can kill your fish, and yet you don't care?
It won't explode, but it may well get stuck in its inflated form and die. In addition, the stress required to induce a puff is traumatic and unhealthy.
You are a very irresponsible fishkeeper. Give your fish away to someone who will take proper care of it, and get a rubber balloon instead; you can blow it up enough to keep yourself entertained without harming an animal.
if you really want to make it puff up, the best way is for you to run around on a busy highway.

Not only is it very stressful, it can be fatal. Puffing is only the fish's last resort if it can not possibly defend itself or escape. Often times just the stress from puffing is fatal.
Why would you want to subject your fish to that kind of stress?
What is even worse is that you claim to know how bad puffing is, but you still want to make the fish puff. Maybe someone needs to point a pistol at your face just to see your reaction. Maybe then you will get it.
OK, why would you let your friend do that? And if it truley is your friend who wants to do it, why did you originally say that you wanted to make it puff?
I'm done wasting my time with this question. It is obvious that you are only trying to get a reaction, and we all fell for it. Troll.

In order for you puffer to puff it has to attacked, stressed or threaten. You can get a fighting fish to harass it or you can just tap on the tank that annoys them very much.

yes it is stressful and the only way to make it puff is to stress it out..as everyone has said. However, did you know that if a puffer puffs *out* of water it can explode? food for thought...

That's very bad for its health. Why not just smack it around instead. :(
Go online and look for a video of a puffer puffing and leave your fish alone. Better yet, take it back to the store.

I would suggest you give away the puffer and keep a virtual pet. You shouldn't be trusted with a live pet. Knowing it can hurt or kill the fish and wanting to do it anyway is animal cruelty in my opinion.
