Homosexuality does runs in families - identical twins one of whom is gay has a 50% chance of also being gay.
It's suspected to be a a gene carried by the maternal line.
Sounds daft doesn't it - the gay offspring do not breed so any 'gay gene' would die out.
But it is the female maternal line that carries the gene.
Apparently scientists think that this gene make the females more sexual and prone to early reproduction - which is an evolutionary advantage even if a few offspring turn out gay.
P.S. I was deeply shocked when Liberace came out of the closet.

NO! Are you crazy? being gay is not a genetic part of life at all. Besides everyone has a mind of their own, and more likely than not he will be straight especially if that's the way he's brought up. But you need to remember that there is nothing wrong with being gay so don't outcast your brother in law to be. Every child that is ever born has a chance of being gay...do you know how much chance? Only about 10% of the entire world is gay, he has more chance of being struck by lightning, eaten by a shark, or ran over by a car. Don't worry about things like that, you cannot just be born gay because your uncle is. Marry her, have kids, and make yourself a great life. Don't fret on something that could be twenty years away!

I am at a toss-up about how people are "made" gay. My ex husband, who is gay, asked me when I decided to be straight. I said I didn;t decide - I just am. He said it's the same with him - he just "is."
But he has a childhood filled with experiences that could have pushed him toward homosexuality - sexual and emotional abuse by a predatory teacher (male), no father figure, middle child needing and lacking attention, introduction to sex by an older brother.
But I know a twin who is gay whose brother is not. Does this mean he was born gay?
I think you should speak with a medical professional about this, since you are concerned.
My question - if you did have a gay son, how would you handle it? I hope you would still love him, because I am convinced that homosexuality is not a choice - it is something either born with or developed at a young age.

OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!!!! Being gay is an individual choice, it can't be "caught" or "passed on", If this were the case then most human being would have gay tendencies as we would all be descended from a gay person in some way!!!!!! Am beginning to wonder if this is a genuine question or are you just extracting the urine??????

It has now been established that homosexuality is partly due to a gene (the other part being environment), but I think the chances of your son inheriting the gene from his uncle is pretty remote. And life can never be absolutely free of risk.

No. Too many people think that being gay is hereditary....I think that's bull.....it's a choice. Not that there's anything wrong with that....I have a gay brother-in-law, and love him very much. If it can be proven to me that it is hereditary, I'll be the first to apologize for this posting.

Homosexual behavior is not inherited!
It is based on the level of hormones an infant gets during development in the womb! Sounds to me like you have issues or homophobia.
I hope you know that those that are afraid of homosxuals are those who are more likely to have secret homosexual desires themselves! Deal with your own issues and don't try and pass off your fears on others. Especially a child!

Love covers a multitude of sins. If you love her why would you let that stop you from marrying her. I have never heard of homosexuality "running" in the family.

It means that she was brought up in a family that had a healthy attitude to living. Which is a lot more than you deserve.
