It usually has diagrams in the owners manual for do-it-yourself maintenance.

As of today I'm the proud owner of a VW Polo, automatic gear. I just took it for a test drive this evening and I really was amazed! VW Polo's are wonderful cars!
They also have the most extensive manuals I've ever seen, so before consulting the local mechanic, I'd read the manual!

You do not need any tools to change a light bulb on a polo, lift the back door and you will see two clips , turn the clips and the light cluster will come out of the car body with all the rear lights ,change the bulb.

you must take the rear light cluster off it may be a bit tight but tap the unit with the nut fully slack
