Assuming that you do have a DVD player, I strongly suggest that you do these steps:

1: Upgrade your video card drivers by visiting your vid card manufacturer's website.

2. Download the latest direct-x version from www.microsoft.com

3. Windows Media Player doesn't necessarily play DVD's without having the correct codecs. Reinstall the third-party dvd player, i.e. CyberLink WinDVD into your system.

If those wouldn't work, try double checking if you do have atleast a DVD-ROM player; to do this, right Click My Computer, select Properties, after that, click on Device Manager, next, select Hardware, then check the CD/DVD devices.

To start with the obvious, do you have a DVD drive? Go into Control Panel --> System --> Hardware --> Device Manager and open up the plus sign next to CD/DVD drives. If there's no DVD drive under there, you won't be able to play DVDs no matter what you do with the settings.

And if you **do** have a DVD drive, please edit your question to include that info, so that people answering your question can give you better information.

Update the drivers for your graphics card.

Worked for me on an old 64mb Asus graphics card.
