I live in Athens and haver not heard any news of this supermarket chain. What is Aldi? Is it like a Carrefour, Lidl, etc?

I am sure if it catches on in Greece, it will get to Corinth eventually.

Apparently no plans yet; maybe they prefer not to enter into competion with the vast LIDL network in Greece, or they live upto certain arrangements with LIDL into certain markets.
Strangely enough, I have not seen LIDL's on Crete?? No Aldi either..??
Could it be that certain regulations in order to protect small traditional business outlets force this large discount outlets out of the city centers like it is the case with LIDL's in Greece..? Historically in NW-Europe, ALDI came before LIDL, and clearly prefers and is to be found in the middle of the cities.. maybe Greek legislation protecting small business is not allowing this (reasonable) and keeps away the interest of ALDI.
In the meantime, if they would set the step to enter the Greek market, they would have to fight a tough battle against the well organised and well run beautiful large outlets that LIDL was able to put up.
Appreciate some feedback and reflections?

There are LIDL's all over Crete. When was the last time you were there? I was there in 2005 and 2006 and shopped at several of them all over the island.

I have never heard of Aldi, is it the same as LIDL? if so, why do we need another one?
