Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an eminent English naturalist[I] who achieved lasting fame by convincing the scientific community that species develop over time from a common origin. His theories explaining this phenomenon through natural and sexual selection are central to the modern understanding of evolution as the unifying theory of the life sciences, essential in biology and important in other disciplines such as anthropology, psychology and philosophy.[1]

Hi Mac M,
As you have already read from the answers above,
you now know who Charles Darwin is.
If you wanted to know if there was a link between Darwin the City in the Northern Territory and Charles Darwin the person there is.
On 9 September 1839, Lieutenant John Stokes sailed into the harbour on the HMS Beagle and named it "Port Darwin" in honour of his friend Charles Darwin.

He was the guy behind the infamous "Scopes Trial" aka "Scopes Monkey Trial" that questioned if man came from a monkey, evolution. Tennesse forbade in 1925 the teaching of anything that contradicted how man was created in the bible. The theory of evolution which the Teacher Scope taught from the school book which referred to Darwin's " Origin of the Species" contradicted this. But then God might have a sense of humor too.
Darwin, noticed that on the Gallapegos Island, the species there and wrote and drew them. That is where he got his Theory of Evolution.
Darwin died not being able to prove that women evolved from the man's rib though.

ok
Chucky D.
a VERY cool dude
like 150 years ago he figured out that things EVOLVED also how to prove it
he had the best mind of his century I think, he was tired and sick a lot too and he didn't like to fight with people who dissed him either
so he stayed home, he had like ten kids, one daughter he really loved died when she was 11 I think
also, he was sad cuz his wife Christian and all the stuff he discovered was messin with that for her
Other than maybe Newton, maybe the smartest dude we ever had. In figuring out stuff anyway.
When some other guy figured out some of the same stuff while he trippin near Australia, Chucky said ok, half the credit is yours.
