T.J. You should wear whatever the hell you want. Whether you're black, white, brown or purple! Keep this in mind though. Punk isn't necessarily about clothes. It's an attitude. Sure the clothes may be the uniform but it has alot to do with a way of not conforming to the mainstream idea of living. I am a "punker" from way back ( late 70's early 80's ). I don't dress the way I used to back then. But I still hold on to the same thoughts and ideas as I did then. so if the way you dress is gonna cause too much strife in your household then at least you can show it in the way you live your live. I hope this helps out.

What is acting black or white? Why try to act "black or white"? I am so sick and tired of this flippin racism in america sh--!!!! Who the hello made anyone better than any one else and who the heck is better than anyone else. This is so stupid and micro minded. It is 2007-my lord!!! When will we grow up and accept, no be willing to learn about the other person, as a person and not a dam-d color swatch?!?!?! I hate this place, there is no place like it that is so rich in segregation, race hate, pure hate, hate-hate-aaaaagggghh!!!!!! I bet if in the schools we were taught our lineage, we wouldnt have all of this sh-t to deal with, . No one is pure, everyone has some other ethnicity in them. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Expression comes from a feeling/sense of something emotion or physical and we need to understand that.
Tell your family to stop teaching you to do what has hurt them for many years. So the f- what if you want to rock a hensley chain or listen to some death metal, those same 7 musical notes helped your ancestors and everyone else's at one point or another get through hard times--EXPRESSION-A FEELING/SENSE OF SOMETHING EMOTIONAL OR PHYSICAL!!!!!

You know what, if it's what you're comfortable in, then why worry about it? We aren't clones of our parents. If your friends are wearing that and you like the clothing then you should stay yourself. Race isn't anything. We're over that whole racism era... well we should be. Lets not have race become an issue again. I'm sure they don't want you dressing like a black panther now either. So just stay true to yourself and you will be happy.

Punk or goth has nothing to do with the color of your skin. If you want to be different then be yourself and do it. Who the hell said that you have to have your hair cropped down to almost baldness and wear your pants past your *** and always wear hoods and smoke blunts and like rap music to be black. I have many goth friends who are black in New York City. Dont be a follower, be a leader. Goths lead the way. Blessed be my brother. By the way, Iam puerto rican and Iam a gothic vampyre. So race means nothing.

I personally don't think punk clothes are apart of a culture. Black people can wear whatever they want. I personally would never let that stuff touch my body and I hate to see black people or anyone for that matter wearing "punk" clothes!

White parents often complain their kids are trying to act black. Tell your parents you're tearing down the racist paradigm!
Dress how you like. If you feel like punk clothes express how you feel, dress punk. True, blacks aren't represented a lot in punk culture, but they're around and if that aesthetic speaks to you, it's not like you're pretending to be someone else. Do it for the right reasons, and you'll always be right.

I wore them 25 years ago and like you say, because I liked punk and the clothing, I couldn't have cared less about being white. I heard the same kind of comments now and then, from people who wanted to guilt me into doing what they wanted me to do. I say forget them and wear what you want.

You should be whoever you want to be and if you want to be unique, then that's what you should do. The only time I think conformity is important is when you are looking for or have a job because employers expect a certain image and if you want to make a living, that's just what it takes. But on your own time, you should wear what you like.

I say be yourself. if you like punk and dressing punk then go for it. you can always bring up the band living colour and lenny kravitz, and the drummer from local h is black.
just be sure you do it because you want to and not for peer pressure.

id suggest you doing it if you want. if we want to make this country better we have to break down barriers and not be divided by small things like apparal. We cant say things like"dont wear abercombie only whites do that" or "dont wear echo only black people do that." We have to come together as one.
