try the Yahoo chat rooms. you can access them through the Yahoo home page. they have a wide choice of different chat rooms, all free of charge. i'm sure that they have a chat room that is specifically aimed at the over 50's. as for finding someone who is genuine, well that's going to have to be a judgement call on your behalf. no one can ever guarantee you that all the people that u will meet online will be genuine, all you can do is take your time to get to know people, and if you do meet any idiots, make sure u press the 'ignore' button on the screen. that will prevent that person from being able to contact u again. it is possible to meet nice people online. i have friends all over the world now, some of which i've know for a few years . good luck, i hope u make some good friends.

Do not look for them on the Internet, as the first poster wonderfully demonstrated. This might be a good time to check that "report abuse" option....
More positively, try searching the net for websites about what interests you. Many sites have message boards, chat groups, etc. for people with common interests.

honey I dont think you can look for someone that is genuine. they will just show up. I married someone that i started chatting with on the internet. but it was a long long time of talking to people before i met him. let things happen naturally. i guess i was lucky and i feel that i'm a pretty good judge of character and was able to see through alot of people that i felt werent being genuine. good luck to you and i hope you find what you are looking for. be patient!

I know what you are saying you never know who you are talking to.
I have a few chat boards I check occasionally, and have enjoyed some banter online, but never tried to really get to know someone.
