tell her to make a deal with u
if u get better grades on next report card then u can go to gymnastics (if its a grade problem)

or tell her that u will pay half of the class price (if money problem)

or tell her that u wont quit and that u like it a lot ( if she thinks u are a quitter)

or tell her that u will work hard and do what ever u can to go to gymnastics class

or when she changes the subject, change it back

Get some info from like the Y or some other place that offers gymnastics. Show it to your mom. Some places let you drop in and try a class for free. If you can get her to take you to just one class (for free) you can probably hook her. Maybe she can take a class @ the same time you are @ gymnastics. :) Remind her that this is exercise and exercise is good for you. Keeps you out of trouble.

First off, make sure your schedule isn't too full. Then, GET YOUR MOMS ATTENTION. She should be supporting you so make sure to give the impression that you are really serious about this. This should be something you really want to do and not quit a week after your first class because your not "flexible" or cant do a "back hand spring". Tell your mom that you will make sure to have time for homework and will try to find a place that is pretty cheap. Sit down with her. Also, ask her what she thinks about it, and listen, make sure not to argue.

It might help to point out that people who get plenty of exercise and who stretch for flexibility on a daily basis tend to do better in school. Exercise reduces stress and keeps the mind clear and sharp. I always make sure to get a good workout before a test. It helps. I'm making straight A's in some tough college courses. Maybe if she knew that gymnastics might actually help you keep good grades, she'd be happy to sign you up. But if you use this angle, you have to make good on your word and do your best in school. Otherwise, she might take you out of it.

First, try to ask her at the right time. Don't ask her when she's busy. If you find her in her most jolly moment, that is the right time! Grab the moment.

Second, when you ask, remember be prepared to give her all the benefits of what you can get out of it. Whether its about signing up for gymnastics or anything else, just be prepared.

Try telling her what You like about gymnastics, what would You like to achieve. Than ask her what does she think of it. It is crucial that You listen to the answer. It may change Your point of view, or it can help You persuade her. If You are completely sure of Yourself, face her with a plan and a back-up plan, and show her that You deserve some credit. Good luck!

Maybe its the money..Catch her when she's in a good mood and ask her. If she responds negatively, ask her why...Tell her you'll help do whatever she wants to sign you up, then stick to your word. Are you the type who starts something and doesn't finish it? maybe thats why.
