What is the story with Dr. Strange?

I was Playing that new superhero game with all the heros in it. I put Dr strange on my team and he was pretty cool. I found myself wanting to know more about this character. I know he is the master of magic, but thats about it. If someone can tell me his story i would be very gratefull. Also it would be very helpful if you leave a link to a website that has alot of info bout Dr. Strange. Lastly do you know how many comics thier are on him. If you anwser all these questions and anwser them good you can say hello to Best Anwser!!!!!

You can find information on Dr. Strange by going to the Marvel Universe site (it has a description of all their characters, and it is alphabetized) and on Toonopedia (lists his origin and first appearances and also tells you who the artists and writers are, and which title he was in and how many issues he appeared in.)

As for who he is and how he came to be, his name actually is Strange. Stephen Strange. And he really is a doctor, a medical doctor. He became a super hero by hard work.

What’s that? I hear you say. Truth. No way! You insist? Way.

He had been a famous surgeon, but had an accident and his hands were too shaky after that to perform delicate surgery. He became a worthless bum (just like the Sub Mariner before him and Iron Man after him! So you see that there really is nothing new under the sun.)

Having heard rumors about a wizard called the Ancient One who could possibly heal his shattered nerves and enable him to be a surgeon again, to once more enjoy the world of prestige and wealth, Strange travele halfway around the world to meet the mystic.

When the Ancient One refused to help him, Strange accused him of being a phoney. Bitter, he was planning to remain at the remote Tibetan monastery only a short time until he could leave. But he accidentally saw the Ancient One’s apprentice, Baron Mordo, planning to use sorcery against him, and take over and rule.

Mordo caught him eavesdropping and used magic to seal his lips so he was unable to speak the words that would warn the Ancient One. Convinced now that magic was real and wanting to help rescue the mage, Stephen Strange went to the Ancient One and offered to become his disciple, hoping that he might eventually learn enough magic to be able to defeat Mordo, or at least warn the Ancient One of his treachery.

The Ancient One had known all along of Mordo’s intentions, but was pleased with Strange’s change of heart. So he did indeed become the new disciple of the Ancient one, and studied hard and practiced and worked to become the best. And thus, he eventually became earth’s new Sorceror Supreme.

You thought knowing magic made it easy to be a super hero? Yes, but Strange wasn’t born KNOWING magic! He had to work and study as hard as Batman had to train in order to become a great detective/ escape artist/ martial artist/ criminologist, etc. That is why Dr.. Strange and Batman are in the same class of heroes who achieved greatness, rather than being born that way or having it come to them accidentally
