Does anyone NOT play where you get a load of cash when you land on "Free Parking" in monopoly?

I suggest the game is better with no money there. A game should be over in 60 to 90 minutes. Putting money there lengthens the game, creating stress and heartache for the losers. I knew some people who put $500 there. Games tended to go over 4 hours at which point it would be agreed to just pack it in with no one winning or losing. Another house rule that shouldn't be used is delayed payment of debts. Someone should never be allowed to say, "pay me later". A debt must be made good immediately somehow. Anything less is another way to extend the game, and is unfair to the other players.

I have to say i'm pleased to see someone asking about monopoly. I'm 22, and my three roomates and i play monopoly at least 3 times a week, often times with anywhere from 2 to 8 people (i lost last night). We are fairly serious when it comes to monopoly and for that reason we usally think that free parking makes the game unfair. The only money we put in free parking is when someone lands on luxury tax or income tax. If you owe the bank money due to a chance or a community chest card we put that money in the bank rather than the middle. Free parking is fun, but since monopoly is already largly a game of chance, we think that not putting a lot of money on free parking help adds a little skill to the game.

Of course I play when you get cash on free parking! We always put $500 in and then all taxes don't go in the bank but in the middle, so it starts to load up. Free Parking? Surprise! Money, money.

When we play, all the money that you have to pay as fees from Community Chest or Chance cards, as well as things on the board like the Luxury Tax or Income Tax, goes into the jackpot for whoever lands on Free Parking next. It's fun!

I play by the official rules, in which you don't get anything for landing on Free Parking. In my view, to do otherwise ruins the game, but to each his own.

The way we play is that all the community chess and card money goes in the free parking. Then if you land on it you get whatever is under that corner.

I couldn't do that! I am really lucky and always land on the free parking when it starts to get really full.

The rules state you do not win anything, just a free space.
