the name Nevada comes from Spanish, and many people give it the Spanish pronunciation, which is incorrect. Most states with Spanish names don't have this problem. (California, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, etc.) I have lived in Nevada most of my life and we pronounce it with the short a (Nev ADD a).

Some people do not know any better. Take the president for example he mispronounces nuclear all the time. It is Nuclear pronounced NOOKLEEAR not NOOKULEAR, I mean that is an educated man, supposedly and he is unable to pronounce a simple two syllable word. Some people just did not pay any attention in class. Mispronunciation is one of my peeves.

Who really cares how others pronounce it? As long as you know what they are talking about when they say it. But anywho, I have always pronounced it Nev-odd-a and will continue to do so.

Try being from "Or E Gone" by the "Will A Met E" river. It's easy to pick out tourists though.

There is no right or wrong way of saying it. It's all about where you're from. Bottom line.
Everyone, depending on what area of the country they're raised in, have different accents and pronounce some words differently.

Good point. Another thing, almost nobody pronounces Carribean correctly any more. It's a damn shame.

Actually, NeVAHda is more correct, as being closer to the Spanish pronunciation of the word, which means "covered in snow".
