For computers connected to the World Wide Web, Micosoft internet explorer 6 (seven doesn't update automatically, 6 is in most libraries, univerisities, etc) is the top. That's the only one we can really verify.
Then you have either IE 7 or some version of firefox, most likely 2 from statistics gathered.
After IE and firefox, it's probably safari (there's no way to tell really, many people say netscape. It could even be AOL (which sometimes mimics other browsers).
There is a lot of Open source use in the east... I don't know whether to count it as they aren't really open networks. And do you count browsers used for internal Unix networks (like library book catalogues)?
edit: the w3school info only shows for browsers used to access w3schools. it is not therefore an example of all browsers used (we don't all go to that website daily do we?) Most people don't access any English websites at all, and so the stats aren't gathered in English.

If you're asking because you want to justify making your site work with IE instead of adhering to web standards, you're taking a big step towards making a bad site. Make sure that your site works with not only other browsers, but other platforms.

According to all of the news services, including CNN, Internet Explorer is. That doesn't mean it is the BEST, however.

Internet Explorer has to be the top
Netscape is probably second
Third depends on how many Mac users are out there...what do Macs use? I never cared for them so I don't know.
